What specific environmental problems is China facing because of over population?

It's not the population that causes the pollution it is the government allowing Factories to pollute and the cities to run with out proper sanitation rules.|||The average population DENSITY of China is much below central European countries, so there really is no general overpopulation. Instead, environmental and other problems are caused by the cultural and social GRAVITY of Chinese people who traditionally dislike individualism, but enjoy being part of a mass. That is why big cities keep growing in population, despite the Hukou system, and rural, desert, mountain areas and small towns are being deserted, despite efforts to make them more attractive.





Cities have the same huge environmental problems as elsewhere in the world. In China, those are aggravated by a poor environmental conscience of most citizens. The young generation, however, is now receiving a much better education, young people care visibly more about the environment than their parents. Environmental conscience developed the same way in Europe, about 30 to 40 years ago.|||The environmental problems the Chinese are facing is not because of the people it is because the government is so lax on the controls it places on industry. When you combine the two (population and lax controls) then you have a major problem. The government of China has the history of the world to draw from on this problem. All the other major countries have been through this same stage in their history and all have documented the cost in money and lives. The specific problem is water and air. There is many books on the British air problems starting at the turn of the 1900's, there are many books on the US with the same problems. In 1972 the US began to change the laws to protect the air and water. The cost to clean these were much more than what was made during the pollution. Love canal is a good example here in the US. Drinking water is of major importance to humans. It is very easy to pollute this water and very expensive to clean. Heavy metal pollution will also pollute the ground water making this unfit for consumption. When you have a population of 1.3 billion people they need a lot of drinking water each day to survive. Any and all water that is polluted is taken out of this supply for humans. Also when you walk through a city and see the residents wearing particle mask because of the pollution you have a major problem. If the air is unfit to breath this brings on a number of respiratory ailments that cost the people a good life and cost the country a much bigger investment in medicine and lost time. Pollution is a lose lose situation that must be controlled if any country wants to advance.|||A City with 10-15 million people is a problem and mainly environmental ones, lack of space %26amp; green area, not enough collection of water for use and waste water for treatment. Eco-City like tienjin, Chong Chin %26amp; Nanjing are in progress of redevelopment with help from Spore and in creation pattern of the SooChow Industrial Park.
