How can school children be made aware of environmental problems be motivated to become green warriors?

All childrens can be motivated if we tell him greenery as mondatory as he eat as he breath as he teach regularly. Greenery should become a chapter for childrens in early classes. this is the best way in my knowledge.......

Shakil Uddin|||Our high-priests of education decided that environmental awareness should become part of the school/college curricula after the Supreme Court of India mandated that environmental education be made compulsory in educational institutions from LKG to PG.

Hastily syllabi were framed and incorporated.

What happened ?

Teachers did their routine by completing the portions in time at the fag end of the academic year because that syllabi was never intended to make a difference to final examinations or education as a whole..

Students got the whiff of the academic perfunctoriness. They just mugged-up and vomited in the exams. All they cared for was minimal marks and getting through.

The deep need and the lofty aims behind the Supreme Court's verdict ended in an academic oblivion!

The loser was the Earth's environment and natural resources

Where did we go wrong? First, we handed over the framing of the syllabi to the typical bureaucratic committee's talking heads who were neither spirited environmentalists nor eco-consciously inclined intellectuals. They just went through the motion for salary and security. So, neither the syllabi were taught inspiringly by the teachers - majority of whom were themselves ignorant about the need - nor the students aspired for eco-environmental awareness given the examination-mark paradigm of our educational system!

We need environmentalists/ecologists to frame the educational syllabi in an interesting fashion peppered with anecdotes. Schools in particular should devote atleast three hours in a week (an hour per selected day) making the students watch the documentaries produced by National Geographic/Discovery Channels on a variety of eco-themes.

Teachers should spend three hours (an hour each for the selected day) in a week on a spirited interactive session with the students on enviro-themes with reading materials culled from the leading international/national magazines and newspapers on environmental crises and social ecological issues.

Students should be given projects involving field trips wherein they would be exposed to realtime environmental/ecological work by visiting sites that are important for the purpose.

On a fortnightly basis, schools should invite enviro-ecological specialists to give 'conversational lectures' on their chosen field of speciality.

The whole idea behind environmental education should be to make students aware of the need to be eco-conscious and make them understand the topics/issues/remedies instead of mugging-up facts for examinations.

What should be inculcated is the value of being an eco-citizen so that each individual as he/she grows up would also share the eco-wisdom and apply those principles in their lives.

In High/Higher Secondary and College levels, students should be exposed to the best of the environment/ecology organisations in the world - EarthFirst!, WWF, World Watch Institute, UN (Environmental Programs), Center for Science and Environment, etc.

The libraries of schools/colleges should make available to students some of the leading publications/magazines on environment/ecology - eg: WWI's State of the World series, DownToEarth The Ecologist - and popular books on the subject. Besides, we need to introduce children to the habit of reading for which they have make students use the library in an inspiring way.

Schools should put wall posters with eco-evocative images and relevant FactSheets on a number of issues on the topics.

All teachers should be given refresher training on how to teach eco-themes by conducting seminars with the participation of environmentalists/ecologists and eco-writers/activists.

Children should not be made to feel that Environment and Ecology as academic burdens to be off-loaded at the earliest. They should be - in an inspiring way - made to feel and realize that learning about environment awareness is a lifetime affair. It only begins in schools but never ends.|||Green warriors! Sound great! mere statistics can instill awareness just as it happened in my case.

90 million watts of power saved along with tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions that is reduced! more success rates, more participation from children. Relate the issue to some common cartoon characters to get the support of kids! TV commercials and biscuit packets serve as a great medium for propagation! sometimes movie celebs can do a lot of mind changing. hope the movement grows more branches from its trunk!|||.Practice what you preach.Example is better than precept.Develop a positive attitude in children on the importance of the interrelation between man and environment, how to minimise the use of precious natural resources like water, how to prevent pollution, especially plastic %26amp; E-waste etc.Plant saplings %26amp; protect trees of our surroundings, ask children to watch phenological changes in the trees of their campus %26amp; home.Take them to field trips, especially to wild life sanctuaries %26amp; ecological hot spots, let them enjoy the beauty, of nature %26amp; also the wounds of human intervention they will surely become GREEN WARRIORS WHO SAVE EARTH FOR OUR POSTERITY.|||Our Vedic scripts have given a clear idea of how the five elements of nature (Earth, Fire, Air, Water, Ether) are related to the five sense organs and the human body. Children can be made to understand that for their own good, the five elements of nature must be balanced and until we take care of them, the nature will not take care of us.

Children learn from home and school. So, parents and teachers need to follow the rules of eco care and set an example to children.

At school, children can be made to learn through experiential learning. They may be asked to come up with charts, skits and debate on ecological topics. Also one can encourage plant gifting among children.|||Yes they should know the environmental problem|||GREEN WARRIORS UNITE!|||Teach them about environmental awareness activities, plantation, recycling of wastages....etc.
