In what ways do environmental problems contribute to new security threats and challenges ?

Doing a bit of research on this and was looking for a bit of help

Any information would be great thanks :)|||Significant famines and droughts can lead to large numbers of refugees who will not necessarily be welcome where they wind up.

As in Nigeria, the Amazon, and elsewhere; pollution by oil companies or other mining concerns can lead to violent opposition.

Continued devastation of forests can lead hippies to sabotage logging equipment.

Shortage of water has led to numerous legal battles between farmers and municipalities in the American West. (Read "The Milagro Beanfield War").

Clashes are becoming more common between those countries still hunting whales and Greenpeace- type organizations. Remember when French frogmen sank the Rainbow Warrior?|||An indirect threat is that our dependence on foreign oil means we do business with fundamentalist Muslims who kill Americans. Why the Republicans ignore this fact i their rabid, anti-global warming propaganda is beyond me... screw the environment, isn't our dependence on Middle Eastern states a national security concern? Their only contribution is "drill baby drill". We can drill all we want but since the oil is sold on the global market, that accomplished little. Its not as if we can just "keep" domestically drilled oil.|||In a word WATER. You won't get any help from the parrots on here who are repeating what they have been told but if you look into it before long there will be wars over water and that is just the start of it.|||Don't buy into liberal propaganda. Terrorism...now that's a real threat.
