What are some specific environmental issues/problems in the United States and/or North Carolina?

I am trying to find an environmental problem in North Carolina that I can research and come up with ways to fix it, but I don't know what problem to research. Any ideas?|||Sediment in water is a big problem in North Carolina. With all the development going on, bulldozers rake the land bare...and every time it rains, all that mud gets washed into streams and creeks.
